Aus Kritik am Leerstand und mit vielen Ideen zur sofortigen Nutzung besetzte eine Gruppe von Aktivist*innen im Sommer 2022 ein Haus an zentraler Lage der Luzerner Neustadt. Trotz zuvorkommender Kommunikation, positivem Feedback aus der Politik und guten Beziehungen in der Nachbar*innenschaft wurde die Belebung des Hauses von den Eigentümer*innen verhindert und polizeilich geräumt. Drei Aktivist*innen wurde ein energieraubendes und teures Strafverfahren aufgehalst. Eure Soli-Gelder fliessen in diese horrenden Geldstrafen, welche den Aktivist*innen aufgedrückt wurden.

Hintergrund: Leerstand

Zweienhalb Jahre stand das Haus an der Bruchstrasse 64 leer, bevor es im Juni 2022 von den Aktivist*innen für mehrere Wochen wiederbelebt wurde. Zuvor wurde den Menschen, die darin wohnten, gekündigt, weil es totalsaniert werden sollte. Saniert wurde es nie, dafür zweimal weiterverkauft. Zuletzt an die Firma Corgi Real Estate, deren Präsident Fritz Burkhard zu einer der 60 reichsten Familien in der Schweiz gehört. Der seit Jahren andauernde Leerstand an der Bruchstrasse 64 vermehrt den Reichtum deren, die bereits mehr als genug haben, während Mieter*innen durch hohe Mieten und Wohungsknappheit aus der Stadt verdrängt werden.

Umbruch im Bruchquartier

Eine Gruppe von Aktivist*innen hat sich gewehrt - gegen die Spekulation mit Häusern und Räumen. Sie haben das Haus an der Bruchstrasse 64 für mehrere Wochen wiederbelebt und aufgezeigt: Es braucht Wohnraum für Alle, eine Stadt für Alle.

Am 21. Juni 2022 kommt neues Leben in das Haus an der Bruchstrasse: Transpis hängen aus dem Fenster. «Umbruch im Bruchquartier» steht darauf und «Die Häuser denen, die sie beleben». Das Kollektiv veranstaltet einen Apéro am Fenstersims, lädt ein zu KüfA und Nachbar:innentreffen. Es finden Gespräche aus dem Fenster statt und Filmabende. 

Die Bruch-Besetzung polarisiert: Die Besetzer*innen aus der Bruchstrasse tragen wichtige Fragen zum Diskurs über städtische Wohnraumpolitik bei. Mit ihrer direkten Aktion vermögen sie aufzuzeigen, dass es dringend ein Umdenken braucht, wie mit dem städtischen Raum umgegangen wird und wer darüber verfügen kann. Anhand des konkreten Beispiels aus der Bruchstrasse, diskutierten die Jungparteien und der Mieter*innenverband über bezahlbaren Wohnraum und Recht auf Stadt.

11 Monate später: Das Haus steht leer und wurde bis ins dritte Geschoss zugegittert. Es häufen sich die eingeschriebenen Briefe, es stapeln sich die Rechnungen. Repression trifft oft einzelne, wie auch in diesem Fall. Doch gemeint sind wir alle. Alle, die sich über die Belebung und Vernetzung in der Bruchstrasse gefreut haben, alle die mitdiskutierten und Content auf Instagram teilten, alle die sich eine lebendige Stadt wünschen, die zugänglich ist für jede*n, unabhängig von Einkommen oder Herkunft. Wir alle wurden mitgebüsst, unsere Ideen für verboten erklärt und unsere Motivation gestraft. 

Stop Gentrification. Es geht weiter!

Die Stadt soll nicht von den Reichen geformt werden. Luzern gehört denen, die darin wohnen, arbeiten, leben. Luzern gehört denen, die es beleben. Das sind auch die Unkaufkräftigen, die Einflussarmen, die politisch Ungehörten und Unvertretenen und die Ausgegrenzten!

Wir finden es absurd, dass gewisse Personen die Macht haben, Gebäude ohne mit der Wimper zu zucken jahrelang leer stehen lassen können, während andere drei Jobs gleichzeitig haben und trotzdem ihr zuhause aufgeben müssen, weil sie sich die steigenden Strompreise und Mieten nicht mehr leisten können. 

Das Recht auf Zentralität bedeutet, sich durch den gesamten städtischen Raum bewegen zu können, ihn zu nutzen, in ihm zu spielen, sich zu begegnen, sich auszutauschen. Es geht um mehr als einen Schlafplatz, eine Arbeitsstelle, einen Eventbesuch oder eine Shoppingtour durch die Einkaufszone. Es geht um den Zugang zur ganzen Palette städtischer Möglichkeiten und Ressourcen wie Wohnen, Bildung, Einkommen, Gesundheitsversorgung.

Luzern braucht Freiräume und unkommerzielle Austauschorte. Räume, die mensch selber gestlaten kann, für Kreativität, Begegnung und Vernetzung. Selbstorganisierte Räume verschwinden einer nach dem andern aus der Stadt. LUZERN BRAUCHT WIEDER MEHR LEBEN UND LIEBE! Und deine finanzielle Unterstützung!

Repressionskosten gemeinsam zu tragen ist notwendig, damit die politische Arbeit gegen Gegentrifizierung, für eine Stadt für Alle weitergehen kann:

Out of criticism of the vacancy and with many ideas for immediate use, a group of activists squatted a house in a central location of Lucerne's Neustadt in summer 2022. Despite obliging communication, positive feedback from politics and good relations in the neighborhood, the revival of the house was prevented by the owners and the activists evicted by the police. Background: Vacancy

The house at Bruchstrasse 64 was empty for two and a half years before the activists went in for several weeks in June 2022. Previously, the people who lived in it had been given notice to leave the house because they were told that it had to be completely renovated. Since then it was never renovated, but sold on twice. The last time it was sold to Corgi Real Estate, whose president Fritz Burkhard is one of the 60 richest families in Switzerland. The vacancy at Bruchstrasse 64, which has been going on for years, increases the wealth of those who already have more than enough, while tenants are forced out of the city by high rents and housing shortages.

Upheaval in the Bruchquartier

A group of activists fought back - against the speculation with houses and habitable spaces. They revived the house at Bruchstrasse 64 for several weeks and showed: There is a need for housing for all, a city for everybody.

On June 21, 2022, new life comes into the house at Bruchstrasse: Demands written on sheets hang out of the window saying "Umbruch im Bruchquartier" (upheaval in the Bruch district) and "The houses to those who revive them". The collective organizes an aperitif at the window ledge, invites to KüfA (food for everyone) and neighbors' meetings. There are conversations out of the window and film evenings. 

The Bruch squat is polarizing: The squatters from Bruchstrasse contribute important questions to the discourse on urban housing policies. With their direct action, they are able to show that there is an urgent need to rethink how urban space is dealt with and who can dispose of it. Using the concrete example of Bruchstrasse, the young parties and the tenants' association discussed affordable housing and the right to live in the city.

11 months later: The house is empty and has been closed up to the third floor. The registered letters are piling up, the bills are piling up. Repression often affects individuals, as in this case. But we are all meant here. All of us who were happy about the revival and networking in Bruchstrasse, all of us who joined the discussion and shared content on Instagram, all of us who want a lively city that is accessible to everyone, regardless of income or origin. We were all fined, our ideas declared forbidden and our motivation punished. 

Stop Gentrification. Let's continue!

The city should not be shaped by the rich. Lucerne belongs to those who live, work and live in it. Lucerne belongs to those who revitalize it. These are also the poor, the hidden, the politically unheard and un(der)represented and the marginalized!

We find it absurd that certain people have the power to leave buildings empty for years without batting an eye, while others have three jobs at the same time and still have to give up their homes because they can no longer afford the rising electricity prices and rents. 

The right to centrality means being able to move through the entire urban space, to use it, to play in it, to meet, to exchange ideas. It's about more than a place to sleep, a place to work, an event to attend, or a shopping trip through the mall. It is about access to the full range of urban opportunities and resources such as housing, education, income, health care...

Lucerne needs free spaces and non-commercial places of exchange. Spaces that people can create according to their needs, for creativity, meeting and networking. Self-organized spaces are disappearing one by one from the city. LUZERN NEEDS MORE LIFE AND LOVE! And your financial support!
