Support AKAB Okretnica in Belgrade!
Help the AKAB Okretnica social center and venue pay rent
while they explore new fundraising methods under late-stage Coronavirus.
AKAB Okretnica is an antiauthoritarian/anti-fascist social center in Belgrade, Serbia. The space is home to an anti-fascist event booking group, an autonomous youth program collective organizing with a nearby informal Roma settlement, a screen printing studio, a zine distro, and a growing library.
Gathering the euro to pay rent every month is a big challenge but so far we managed to this mostly by running an informal bar at the events we organize.
Obviously, the global Covid-19 pandemic has made our normal fundraising methods unsafe and impractical. We have been leaning on the donations of comrades both within Serbia and abroad as well from our individual paychecks and are now experimenting with other fundraising forms to reduce that pressure and buy us enough time to put new fundraising models in place.
Another challenge in the recent days were attacks by local Nazi groups, which means that we need to spend money on additionally securing the space.
We are asking for 1200 euro to cover four months' rent, allowing us to focus our existing resources on new forms of fundraising, renovating the space in anticipation of re-opening after Covid, and security upgrades in response to recent attacks by local fascists.
We thank you for your solidarity and support!

AKAB Okretnica
AKAB Okretnica grew out of the experiences of the Infoshop Furija and the self-organized kindergarten Kokolepo that existed in the squat Inex-Film 2011-2015 - which was eventually evicted.
After a few attempts to maintain a new squat, it was finally decided to rent a space, and an adequate space was found at the end of 2017.
Okretnica was opened in 2018. It is a rented space and was able to stay current with its rent due to a regular stream of public events – totaling perhaps three-hundred over the last three years – such as film screenings, discussions, open mics, poetry nights, and especially concerts.
We also organized alternative bookfairs and international activist gatherings. In our opinion it is a space of vital importance for the radical movement in Belgrade and in the Balkans.
It is also an important part of the local counter-cultural scene. There is a symbiotic relationship with a nearby band practice space which gathers local antifascist bands. Together these two spaces are the heart of the local antifascist music scene.
